Helping you help yourself!

                - Nuggets, Gems & Pearls of Wisdom: An Introduction -

In this day and age, a father's  love (and the existence of many) is sparce.  Black families in the inner city/hood/ghetto have been reduced to baby mama's and baby daddy's.  There are no longer mother's and father's raising their children in these neighborhoods; which allows all sorts of  unsavory character's in to influence the babies. Even Big Mama (who is now about 40 years old) has gotten the heck out of dodge.  Generational dispair is just one of the causes of the blight on inner city communities.

Nuggets from a Ghetto Dad is just one of the catalyst's that opened the doors to the hood mentality.  No holds bar, straight to the point commentary that puts in perspective how and why we need to rethink how we talk to children and communicate to one another.

If you are a product of the hood and are ready to see real changes in that environment (whether you're still there or not) first, do not be ashamed of where you are from.  As children we do not get to choose where we live. Second, change your dialog when dealing with children.  You do not like being told to "shut the hell up" as an adult; think about how that translates to our youth; plus children learn more from what you do quicker than what you say.  Lastly, and this one is easy; MENTOR A CHILD!  I help with a program called Drug Education for Youth (DEFY).  Since I do not have children and was the pet project of many bullies in grade school I did not get too excited at the idea of dealing with youngsters whose personalities may mirror that of my childhood foes.  What I found out is, all children will express themselves and when given sound advice and guidance, they will get on the right track and do some great things.

Nuggets, Gems and Pearls of Wisdom is a just one tool to assist with changing communication style in an effort to help and inspire children to live to their full potential.  Also to help grown folks understand that they have got to mature and allow these kids to have a chance.  Remember your childhood?  So you know it can be done!

March
Word's of Wisdom

I have consistently been wrongfully accused of being a "strong woman".  Although I am very capable of handling my business, multitasking at work and am stable enough to encourage youngsters, I too need to step back at times and seek encouragement, guidance and inspiration.

Just a few days ago someone said to me, "I can't believe you're not more successful with all that you do."  I asked that person if they ever passed my websites, writings or consulting opportunities onto others.  After a pause I got a "uhhh . . . well . . . yeah".

Who encourages you?  Who knows what you do?  Who, even in the midst of a hectic day, will call just to make sure you're on track and focused?

If you don't have that person in your life, then become that person for someone.

Check out our featured monthly provider.  Someone needs to know what they're doing.  And if their information is helpful to you, you should become a resource to them and tell a friend.
